WEEZY POSTPONES SENTENCING DUE TO DENTAL PROBLEMS
When Lil Wayne said goodbye to his fans, they thought he was off to the pen, but in reality he was on his way to have his canines investigated. The sentencing in his trial on a weapons felony was postponed so the grilled out rapper could receive a dental operation.
Lil Wayne, who is now scheduled for sentencing on March 2, is one of music’s biggest sellers and rap’s premiere artists. He is currently looking at a year behind bars thanks to a plea bargain though that could very easily be reduced to 8 months for good behaviour.
The rapper’s lawyer Stacey Richman told journalists that he was due to return home to Miami to undergo a dental procedure. She did not specify to what the exact problem was.
“It is a medical situation that has to be addressed,” she told reporters.
She also said the rapper had originally intended on having the work done before Tuesday but his dentist had been overseas dealing with humanitarian issues.
The Manhattan D.A. had no objection to the proposed dental work after a consultation with the rappers dentist.
Lil Wayne, 27, pleaded guilty in October to a charge of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, admitting he illegally had a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his tour bus in July 2007. Police found the weapon when they stopped the bus after a Manhattan concert.
He released what should be a final farewell to his devoted followers in a video he posted online hours before his court appearance on Tuesday, pleading with them: “Do not forget about me.”
Meanwhile, he was preparing himself mentally for his prison sentence, his lawyer said.
“He’s a strong man,” Stacey Richman assured members of the swarming media.
Unfortunately for the southern rapper, this does not signal the end of his legal turmoil.
Wayne is scheduled to go on trial on March 30 for a felony drug possession and weapons charge in Yuma County, Arizona. This particular case stems from his January 2008 arrest at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint, where police said they found cocaine, Ecstasy and a handgun on his tour bus.
Lil Wayne’s conviction on weapons charges seems in this day and age to be inexcusable. Surely he’s rich enough at this stage to pay someone to “stay strapped” so he doesn’t have to? The “keeping it real” argument also doesn’t cut it in this case. If Weezy was keeping it real he wouldn’t be carrying a piece. I very much doubt the movie character John Gotti stayed strapped after he became a boss, a character Lil Wayne alludes to in the rap game. It remains to be seen if Wayne can learn from this and at the very least not harbour incriminating evidence on his tour bus.
