Love him or loathe him, Tim Westwood has long been recognised as the UK’s leading Hip-Hop radio DJ, broadcasting to the nation via BBC1 and BBC1Xtra. However it would appear, from a BBC statement last night, that Westwood’s involvement in the station will be rather more subdued. In a statement last night BBC said “Tim Westwood is to leave his drive time show on BBC Radio 1Xtra in a shake-up to the network’s day-time presenting line-up.”
In his place will come the equally loud and in-your-face Charlie Sloth, who made a massive impact with his “Being Charlie Sloth” web series and subsequent radio shows. At this point it would seem that Westwood will remain at the station, though exclusively as a weekend DJ, with a new programme from 7-9pm on Sunday evenings being announced.
In a statement kept things civil, saying his hosting the drive-time slot had “a lot of fun and a great experience”. Charlie Sloth was equally professional, stating “I’m very excited about being given the opportunity to speak to the nation for five days a week and for the faith put in me by the Radio 1Xtra team.”
Rap Ireland wish both DJs the very best with their new shows.
