Its official folks, after months of speculation and apparently a lot of soul searching by the lyrical genius that is Mike Skinner, The Streets are set to play their last ever show in October.
Mike Skinner has decided to call time on his poetic and somewhat controversial musical persona to concentrate on other projects. The Birmingham lad turned Cockney wide boy will cease performing under the moniker of The Streets when he completes touring for his fifth album ‘Computer And Blues’ and will make his final appearance in the UK capital with a headline show at Freeze Festival.
The Streets are currently the only confirmed act for the festival, which takes place in Battersea Power Station over the weekend of October 28–29 and the show could prove to be a must see for fans of the “Original Pirate Material” hit maker .
The Streets are also set to play a string of UK festivals throughout the summer, including sets at Glastonbury, T In The Park, the Reading and Leeds Festivals along with Wireless amongst others. This summer was already shaping up to be a big one, but with an emotional farewell also now on the cards, it could well prove to be an epic. Which festival to attend though that’s the question now!
It is not over stating the relevance of Mr. Skinner to say this waves goodbye to the sound of a generation. He provided the breakthrough that many artists of the same genre used to push through material that would otherwise have remained in the shadows.
Rapireland will of course keep you updated on performances and reaction throughout the summer months.
