After almost five years on probation, Snoop Dogg has been kept on a tight leash of late. However that has come to an end now with the Doggfather being allowed off probation after serving 49-months. The original sentencing was set for 60-months but the California native was let off the hook almost a year early. The probation was a result of an incident outside NBC studios in 2006, where it is alleged that police found cocaine, marijuana and a firearm in his car.
As a result of this encounter with the law, Snoop was hindered from traveling and touring the world. In 2007 he was restricted from venturing to Australia and the United Kingdom. Down-under officials were quoted as saying Snoop “isn’t the sort of bloke” that should be in their country. Just a month earlier he had endured the same plight when he was denied entry to the United Kingdom to perform on his tour with P-Diddy. At the time Snoop was left decidedly aggrieved by the treatment he received by our neighbours; “I cannot control my past; me being an ex gang member, ex-drug dealer- but I know how to do what’s right, how to turn my life around.”
Snoop is unsurprisingly supposed to be “pleased” with the decision according to TMZ.com. With his criminal convictions racking up like his musical achievements, fans of Snoop Dogg can only hope that this is his last brush with the law. Hopefully the implications of the last five years will see the Doggfather firmly tuck his tail between his legs and focus on what he does best, making musical, not criminal records.
