The music world has always been notorious for being a male dominated world especially when it comes to Hip-Hop. There has been very little female representation in this genre, but the few that have made an impact have done so in a major way; Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, Rah Digga, Nicki Minaj, Eve and La Mala on the international front.
Even with such a poor representation it would appear that bickering and cattiness have been a dominant feature of the female sub-genre. However, one of these fine sisters thinks all the fighting needs to stop. Eve spoke candidly about the Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj feud on BBC Radio 1xtra Tim Westwood show.
Speaking about Nicki, Eve said, “…a lot of people be wanting me to hate just because that’s how girls supposed to do in hip-hop… But we need more females, man. There’s too much testosterone in the hip-hop game.” And on the feud Lil Kim initiated on Nicki, Eve had this to say, “I need her to stop”.
Maybe the tables will turn now that Eve is finally back on the music scene. Nine years after her previous album, Eve is finally set to release new work at the end of the year. The latest album Lip Lock has been stuck in production limbo since 2007.
Eve has stated that the delays in the album were because of the problems at Interscope Records, who underwent a corporate change. Instead of working on her album, Eve focused on doing guest appearances on other tracks such as Patron Tequila – Paradiso Girls, “My Chick Bad” with Trina and Diamond on Ludacris’ “Battle of the Sexes” album and Alicia Keys’ track “Speechless”.
The recent public appearances and interviews led fans to speculate that the new album was finally going to be released, and this has now be confirmed by Eve herself, who states the album will be on shelves by year end. Maybe Eve’s return will spark a new mature attitude amongst the female half of the Hip-Hop world.
