This August will mark the 10 year anniversary since the passing of one of the greatest R&B artists of all time, Aaliyah. The multi Grammy and Academy Award nominated singer’s life was tragically cut short on August 25, 2001 when her plane crashed while travelling from The Bahamas, instantly killing her and 8 other people on board. Truly a pure loss in the world of music; her sultry voice, sex-appeal, killer dance moves and progressive music paved the way and made R&B what it is today.
To commemorate the passing of this icon a petition has been started to convince the organisers of the BET Awards to make this years show a tribute to the Try Again singer. While nothing has been confirmed it’s believed that Aaliyah’s long-time friends and collaborators Missy Elliott and Timbaland will lead the tribute if it happens. If you wish to sign the petition and help see the tribute happen then all you have to do is click HERE
