On the 13th of July, an hour long special will air on E! detailing Nicki Minaj‘s rise to rap royalty. The programme, entitled; E! Entertainment Special: Nicki Minaj will feature Swizz Beatz and her Young Money mentor, Lil Wayne.
Throughout the special, Minaj will discuss her transformation from a young, impoverished girl in Trinidad, to a Young Money mega-star. The documentary reveals that her Minajesty, as she is commonly known, did not always lead a privileged lifestyle.
Growing up in Trinidad in a large family was a struggle for her family, but the rapstress admitted that she did not understand this at the time. “Growing up in Trinidad, I didn’t know that we were poor, ten people living in a three-bedroom house and all the dogs and cats my Grandmother had, none of that seemed abnormal.” She recalled.
Aside from her unpretentious upbringing, Minaj will also discuss her distinctive fashion sense, her lyrics and her looks. Her parents also give extensive interviews, describing the life of the young Minaj, before she became one of the faces of Young Money.
