In an interview with Rolling Stone, Nas has discussed his upcoming autobiographical drama series Sweet Dreams on Xbox calling it “really therapeutic”. He is not set to act in the series but will contribute music and co-write episodes. The rapper claims that it will be a genuine portrayal of his life.
“Even if I don’t look cool in it, I just want it to be real and raw. I didn’t see this as a full autobiography at first. But I have so much that’s happened in my life already. There was no room for fantasy. I wanted it to be entertaining, but everything from my life seemed to be so strong. It’s all reality. There’s nothing from my life I didn’t want in there.”
He has also indicated that he is proud of the accomplishments he has made throughout his career, with emphasis on the release of his debut album 20 years ago, Illmatic, which is still seen as a landmark of East Coast hip hop.
This comes after his recent announcement of illmaticXX, a 20th anniversary edition of the 1994 original to be released this April. This anniversary edition is said to include unreleased remixes as well as the 10 original tracks and can be preordered on iTunes now. The rapper has also said that a new album is coming “sometime in 2014”, so stay tuned!
