First her X-Factor performance, then the S&M video and now Man Down. Rihanna is leaving quite a trail of controversy behind her. The video Man Down is about a woman who was sexually assaulted and she finds her own justice by shooting the “man down”. Parent groups such as Enough Is Enough have fought the video saying that it’s too violent and too graphic to appear on shows that specifically target children and teenagers.
Unlike most other stars who let it pass Rihanna took to Twitter on a rampage firing back at all the criticism. “I’m a 23 year old rockstar with NO KIDS! What’s up with everybody wantin me to be a parent? I’m just a girl, I can only be your/our voice!” As many of you know this video is something that’s very personal to Rihanna because of the abuse she suffered at the hands of Chris Brown. The controversy surrounding Man Down is very similar to the controversy that surrounded M.I.A.’s infamous Born Free video when it finally had to be removed from Youtube due to outrage from parents and religious leaders.
Do you think Rihanna has gone too far? Or is this simply an overreaction from her critics?
