On May 26th, a whole new Weezy was revealed to the world through a sentimental song entitled ‘How to Love’. The ballad which surfaced online is taken from the upcoming ‘Tha Carter IV ‘and to quote the lyricist himself, its spinning gives grade-A “goosebumps”. To demonstrate just how far Tunechi has wandered into unfamilier yet soulfully sound territory, he stated “the song is gonna take me somewhere that I’ve never been musically.”
Mr.Carter is not shy to admit that he has never ventured into this deep domain before, where he has been so frank about his feelings; “I can tell you I have never had a single like it, and it’s an amazing song” he told MTV’s Sway Calloway. Throughout ‘How to Love’ a warmhearted Wayne serenades his squeeze, stating “you had a lot of crooks trying to steal your heart, never really had luck, couldn’t never figure out how to love.”
Throughout the ballad, Weezy reveals a respectful and thoughtful side that prior to its release many would be forgiven for rendering him to be incapable of. He tells the apple of his eye that she “deserves the best” and wills her to see how inherently “beautiful” she is, despite how “insecure” she may constantly feel. The song streams along at a nice, neutral pace, the accompanying acoustic guitar and drums providing a becalming backdrop. ‘How to Love’ should provide a welcome reprieve in the soon to be released album which already features high tempo tracks ‘John’ and ‘6 Foot 7’.
Like a fine wine, it appears that Weezy has aged well. Far from his degradation of women through lyrics such as “they tell you no remote, I control women” taken from the pleasantly named song ‘Shut up B**** Swallow.” He appears to have become a ‘gentle’ man even if just for one song only. So who will Weezy worshippers prefer? The charismatic, Lil (wretched) Wayne or the smooth and easy Lil Weezy? To be fair, he has shown that he has the ability to do both very well, although maybe he should leave the crooning to Chris De Burgh. This well mannered Wayne is more than likely not going to wash with the majority, the probable forecast for the future, Weezy to ‘make it rain’ once more!
