New Orleans native Lil’ Wayne has said in a recent interview, done with XXL Magazine that he intends to retire after the release of his next studio album Tha Carter IV.
The Young Money general appears in the forthcoming issue of XXL where he speaks about his recording process, Drake and Nicki Minaj’s success, and his retirement plans. Hinting that the forthcoming and eagerly anticipated album Tha Carter IV may be his last offering Weezy said;
“I’m bowing out still on top, I’ma make y’all want me when I retire. I’ma make y’all be like, ‘Nooo!’ I ain’t leaving out this bitch when y’all be like, ‘Yeah, it’s about time, dawg.’ Carter IV might be my last one. I’ma make y’all be like, ‘Fuck!’ Yeah, nigga, I’m gone”
He points to wanting to be a good father to his kids as his main reason for wanting to retire, saying;
“Honestly, this is the real truth, I honestly think it’s unfair to my kids. I’m super dedicated into what I do. Like, it’s no questions—it’s hands down, I do this. I live this. I don’t have a day out my week that I do something else.”
The rapper explained that it takes a lot of time to maintain a high standard of success, and that he needs to dedicate his time to his kids;
“I want to succeed the way I want to succeed. You can succeed. You can put out a hit… But to do it the way I want to do it, to be comfortable to do what the fuck I want to do, you’ve got to work like no other. Like I said, it’s unfair to my kids. So about 30, 31, 32, I gotta get ready.”
Weezy’s workflow cannot be denied as you can see by the amount of appearances he makes on other peoples projects. Add to that his own releases, both studio and mixtape albums, it’s no wonder the rapper is known for spending endless time in the studio recording.
Tha Carter IV, like so many other eagerly awaited projects this summer has been pushed back numerous times but it’s latest release date is scheduled for August 29th.
