In the words of Nicki Minaj– “which b*tch you know make a million off a mixtape”???
Well according to Lil Kim- the Queen Bee herself has!
On Valentines Day, Lil Kim notified fans (via twitter) that her eagerly anticipated ‘Black Friday’ mixtape could now be purchased on the internet for $9.99. Unlike other artists who have released mixtapes for free download, Black Friday can only be purchased in CD format through the PayPal website.
The following day, Lil Kim took to twitter to boast claims that her mixtape broke PayPal records by selling more than 113,000 copies within 28 hours. The rapper also apologised to those who had trouble accessing the provided PayPal link, stating that the money-transfer site crashed due to an overload of hits. “Sorry 4 the link issue too many hits shut the paypal system DOWN! LOL.”
Nicki- who certainly wasn’t buying it, responded to the news on twitter with exaggerated laughing, and it appears that the sale figures quoted by Kim were also met with skepticism by others across the net. Robo3k @ KarenCivil.com investigated the controversial claims by contacting PayPal representatives, who stated that although the company do process payments, they DO NOT track sales. Robo3k also reported that Kims bit.ly link has only been clicked 24K+/- times, contradicting the apparent sales of 113K.
The Black Friday mixtape-a play on Nicki’s number 1 selling album; features artwork that depicts a sword-holding Kim surrounded by the decapitated Barbie doll body of Nicki Minaj. Lil Kim takes a further stab at the Young Money star by leaking a diss track off the mixtape entitled ‘Pissin’ On Em’; a rework over the Pink Friday ‘Did It On’ Em‘ beat.
So is Kimmy Blanco really ‘killing’ it or will Nicki ‘retire with the crown’…??
