It would appear that Jessie J’s first experience of Ireland was not exactly as amazing as she may have hoped. In fact, the British star, who is a non-drinker herself, has spoken of her disgust at the drunken behaviour of students at the annual Trinity Ball, who booked the singer to play at the ultimate party session of 7,000+ students.
Having finished her allotted time on stage, where the drunken crowd were less than receptive by her own high standards, Jessie immediately took to Twitter, where she started her tirade against the college students:
“Just came off stage at trinity ball. Probably one of the hardest gigs to date. To see so many people so drunk they couldn’t even stand. Girls unconscious and literally trampling on each other. It wasn’t easy.”
Sounds like a typically messy Friday night in Temple Bar, no? Well Jessie wasn’t impressed;
“I’m not upset they weren’t all listening. It upset me to see so many young people so not with it. I’m not used to it,” she said.
Due to medical reasons, Jessie J does not drink or smoke and is not a fan of those who do it to excess.
“It’s hard to sing when I just wanted to go into the crowd and help all the crying girls who were being squashed.”
Following a backlash from some typically snotty Trinity students (sorry Trinners!), who laid into the British singer saying she was lucky to perform in the first place, Jessie J hit back to clarify her earlier comments;
“I was just shocked at how intoxicated they were and I was genuinely worried for them. I’m not used to it. That’s all. And it’s not just in Ireland, its everywhere. As a non drinker, I just want to spread the message that binge drinking is dangerous,” she said, adding: “I just care.”
So you heard her folks! Stop being such drunken messes!!
In the words of Blizzard’s front man to Jessie J: Welcome to Ireland!
I think Jessie was just being nice, and honest. I was on a Dublin radio station discussing this and texters who were there at the ball agreed with what she said about the event. If anyone is interested there is an article on Gargle Nation discussing this and the context of problem drinking in Ireland
