Jessie J made her stateside television debut Saturday night, performing on “Saturday Night Live” hosted by “Hangover” star Zach Galifianakis.
Fresh off being confirmed for this years Oxegen Festival, the British singer song-writer showed off her powerful set of lungs while singing her UK and Irish number one smash hit “Pricetag” alongside American rapper B.o.B. She later returned to the set for a flawless performance of “Mamma Knows Best”,a track off her debut album “Who You Are” which peaked at number four in our own album charts and number two over in the UK. The album is due for American release on April 12.
Becoming the first artist ever to perform on SNL without a album out, Jessie J has enjoyed a successful two months with a sell out tour, winning the Critics Choice at the Brit Awards, and scoring a number one hit with “Price Tag” . Due to an overwhelming demand from fans, the release date for her debut album was bumped forward a whole month.
“I think it’s probably even more special for a British artist because we’re British,” Jessie told MTV News about appearing on “SNL.” “I know Adele’s done it recently and I’m so proud of her and Tinie Tempah’s blowing up here. I just feel like the British movement is coming, like U.K stand up, and I’m flying the flag. To be able to do something like ‘Saturday Night Live’ is part of history.”
After wowing the critics with her performance on Saturday Night Live things are looking bright for the soulful singer. Will she crack the always tricky American market??
