Today is the day former Murder Inc. rapper Ja Rule has been dreading since July 2007, for the pint size rapper is today being officially sentenced to prison for possession of a handgun.
Born Jeffrey Atkins, and charged under that name, the star, who is determined his latest album “The Renaissance Project” (his first since 2005) will be released before he starts his sentence, pleaded guilty to the charge of criminal possession of a weapon in an earlier court appearance and was sentence to 2 years imprisonment.
“Damn, some of u act like 18 months is forever,” Ja Rule tweeted shortly after learning of his prison term. “It aint Hard to tell who the snitches are!!!…Renaissance Project will be dropping before I go in.”
“Ja” who blasted to global prominence in 2000 with the release of the single “Between Me and You” and followed up with a string of smash hit albums in the early noughties, was arrested and charged after an incident in July 2007 when after a concert in New York police officer searched his Maybach and found a loaded handgun in the rear door.
After pleading guilty to the charge in December 2010 and receiving sentence, today’s appearance is when the rapper, who previously had major beef with 50 Cent prompting the intervention of Minister Louis Farrakhan in 2003, will learn when he must be surrendered to authorities to begin his term.
