Don’t act surprised. Eminem is back and he is a breath of fresh air in today’s Hip-Hop world, where substance, lyrics and emotion have been losing the battle with bubble-gum rap. Forget “Eeenie, Meenie, Miney…”, “Shorty’s like a Melody..”, Eminem is coming back with hard-hitting, meaningful tracks, and he is being rewarded at the cash register.
With over 800,000 albums sold in the first week, Eminem has secured the best album debut since 2008, blowing Drake‘s “Thank Me Later” album out of the water with almost 1/4 million albums to spare.
Whilst it was a good week for Eminem and Drake, taking the top two chart positions, it was also a great week for underground Hip-Hop, with The Roots “How I Got Over” debuting at No.6 with 51,000 sales, a remarkable achievement considering the lack of mainstream media support. We encourage any lovers of Real Hip-Hop to go pick up the album – you won’t be disappointed!
