More news from the Dogg pound today as the release date for Snoop Dogg‘s 11th album Doggumentary draws ever nearer (it’s finally out next week). Billed as a celebration of the gangsta-turned-entrepreneurs music and influences, one track on the album is a sure standout and this is his collaboration with the Gorillaz’ on the trippy far out R&B jam “Sumthin Like This Nite” (via Some Kind of Awesome).
Produced by Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorrilaz fame, the track has the stamp of the cartoon based super-group written in bold all over it. The Gorillaz mastermind adds all sorts of woozy, synth hooks and flaky drums alongside tweaked cyborg-esque backing vocals. The track is a real sit up and take notice piece with Snoop, a guest on the Gorillaz album Plastic Beach, sounding characteristically at ease among all the sonic weirdness and sub-human madness that make up the back drop to his signatory laid back vocal.
Have a listen to the track and see what you think.
