More good news today for Hip Hop fans and festival goers alike as Busta Rhymes was announced as headliner at the One Love Peace Festival in its first appearance for 20 years. For those of us too young to remember the festivals first incarnation it was an unequivocal success bringing in 25,000 fans and helping to promote a genre that was deemed to still be in its infancy in the UK.
In light of the ongoing ‘Broken Britain’ crisis, organisers of the 2011 One Love Peace Festival aim to reaffirm their ‘Throw away your Guns, Throw away your Knives’ initiative by echoing the sentiments of Jamaica’s original One Love Peace Concert where headliner Bob Marley famously united opposing leaders on stage to bring an end to the country’s political civil war.
This year’s event is being held in honour of Bob Marley and is to commemorate 30 years since the passing of the iconic reggae godfather.
Busta will join other acts already announced to appear at the reggae-themed event including Shaggy, Sean Paul, Gyptian and UK grime star Skepta and it is believed to be the only opportunity festival goers will get to see the star perform .
The show, at London’s Wembley Arena on 31 July, will be the first time Busta has played in the UK for three years.
The rapper said it would be a gig to remember, adding: “I can’t wait to get back to the UK.”
“It’s been three years since I last performed here so I’m dying to tear the roof off Wembley Arena.
“When I’m done, you’re gonna remember it for a long time to come. Get ready because it’s about to go down.”
Bob Marleys son Ky Mani Marley is also lined up to perform some of his dad’s most famous hits.
Tickets are on sale now, priced from £35.
