It’s not long since we saw two of the South’s top upcoming rappers grace the XXL Freshman cover, but now it appears that Big K.R.I.T and Yelawolf are working on a collaborative mixtape called Country Cousins, and K.R.I.T. says the two rappers actually go way back.
Speaking in an interview in recent days, KRIT said “I definitely knew Yela before the Freshman cover. I had the opportunity to meet him at Tree Sound Studios in Atlanta, and he’s a down to Earth person, really just hungry and really just competitive about just the art of music.”
K.R.I.T. went on to say the duo recorded a song entitled “Happy Birthday Hip-Hop” during that first meeting, and that “from there he’s just been my country cousin and I’m excited to see what’s been going on with his grind. Lord willing we can do this tape Country Cousins eventually.”
Country Cousins is currently looking at a release date of early June with “no pushbacks,” according to K.R.I.T. “It’s gonna be all produced by me.”
