Almost 10 years after its first release, Eminem’s third album under Interscope Records “The Eminem Show” has reached the 10 million mark, earning it Diamond status in the United States. This is the second album for the Detroit rapper to reach 10 million album sales with his 2000 release “The Marshall Mathers LP” also reaching the milestone last year.
The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) confirmed on Monday the 7th March, that the fourth solo album from Shady had hit the 10 million sales. “The Eminem Show”, which features hits like “Without Me” “Cleanin’ Out My Closet” “Superman” and the Aerosmith-sampling “Sing for the Moment”, was the best selling album of 2002, and at the 2003 Grammy Awards the album picked up Best Rap Album. At the time the album received critical praise by most music critics and is often debated as Eminem’s most personal and best work to date.
On its release on May 28, 2002 the album sold 1.32 million copies in its first week of sales in America, was Eminem’s first album to be mainly self-produced, and the first album to be released under the Shady Records Label.
After storming to the top of the album charts in 18 different countries across the globe in 2002, including our own Irish Album chart, Eminem brought his Anger Management Tour to our shores in 2003 finishing off his European leg of the tour at Kildare’s Puncherstown Racecourse for two sell-out shows with what would be a gig to remember for lucky Hip-Hop fans with D12, Xzibit, Cypress hill and Obie trice all gracing the stage on a summer’s evening in Kildare.
The next album pushing the 10 million sales is his 2004 release “Encore” which sits around 7 million sold, while his most recent effort “Recovery” is inching closer to a staggering 4 million total sales in less than a year in America alone. Is there any stopping the white boy?
In other Eminem news, Marshall recently penned an open letter to Detroit explaining to the world how he feels about his beloved hometown, the 2.34 mintue video was posted on Youtube this week and Rap Ireland has it for you along with one of the most rememberable songs from the now Diamond album “The Eminem Show”
