An independent TV news station in California has recently exposed new evidence to suggest that the LAPD were linked to the murder of legendary rapper Christopher “Notorious B.I.G” Wallace, who was gunned down outside the Peterson Muesum in Los Angeles on the 9th of March 1997. Although the case remains unsolved for 14 years, it has long been alleged that the LAPD were involved in some sort of cover up surrounding Wallace’s murder. From 2005- 2007, two law suits were filed against the City of Los Angeles by the rap star’s family; accusing LAPD officials of suppressing evidence regarding the role that officers David Mack and Rafael Perez may have had in the shooting. Within months of the murder, both officers were dismissed from the police force after they were charged with separate unrelated crimes including a drug heist and bank robbery.
According to news station KCAL9 TV, the new evidence consists of recent unsealed documents that include statements from an unnamed inmate who shared a cell with Rafeal Perez in the L.A County Jail. According to the inmate, Perez informed him that both officers were involved with Death Row Records. He also alleged that Perez told him that he was working security at the Peterson Museum on the night of the murder, claiming that he phoned Mack to notify him of Biggie’s whereabouts on leaving the party. The report suggests that Perez did not further imply or disclose if either officer was involved in the murder. According to the broadcast, hundreds of pages of sworn testimony from this inmate were not handed over to the Wallace family Attorney.
In a televised interview with Randy Poole -a lead investigator in the Biggie case who has since resigned from the LAPD – states that he believes the LAPD were involved in a cover up by withholding evidence from the District Attorney and FBI. Both Mack and Perez have repeatedly denied any involvement in the rap stars murder. The LAPD refrained from commenting on the case as it is still under investigation.
