Lil Wayne Confirms Plans to Retire by 35

Lil Wayne remarked way back in March that he would be retiring from the rap game once he reaches the ripe old age of 35. Fans of the Young Money mogul who might have been hoping for a turnaround will be left disappointed when they read the rappers interview in the latest issue of GQ magazine.

Weezy outlined the reasons behind his decision to retire in the next six years in the ‘Gods of Rock’ issue which also features Eminem. The rapper, who has been in the hip-hop industry since he was 9, spoke openly about hanging up his microphone and cited work and family commitments as the instigators behind the move.

Lil Wayne referred to his lengthy career as the initial reason for his retirement, he stated: “Basically, I have been doing this for eighteen years. That’s reason number one. I have accomplished all that I have set out to accomplish and more.”

In addition to this, Wayne showed his selfless side when he stated his intent to focus more on the artists on the Young Money label: “Also, I have a label, and I’ve only put out two artists [Drake and Nicki Minaj]. I have a lot more work to do, and it’d be selfish to not focus on being the boss and focus on their projects.”

As a father of four, it is no surprise that the primary instigator behind his pending retirement is family-related, Wayne revealed the need to spend quality time with his offspring: “But the main reason is my kids, my children. Now, if I thought I’d be selfish to my artists, imagine what I think I would be doing to my kids.”

With such a vast array of albums and accolades to his name thus far, fans will surely be expecting Weezy to pack a lot in over the remainder of his time in the rap game. The ‘knockout’ singer will hardly disappoint.
