R&B star Usher Raymond was a busy man this past weekend, taking his “OMG” tour to Dublin’s O2 arena, where the ladies-man rocked two sell-out gigs, partied hard with lucky Irish fans at his official after-party, pulled his own pints of the black stuff and found time to shop around Dublin’s fair city whilst getting pulled over by Gardai looking for an autograph.
Jetting into Dublin on Friday for the Irish leg of his sell out “OMG” tour, the Grammy Award winner wasted no time in seeing what the Dublin nightlife is like. Usher and his crew hit The Wright Venue, where they took over the €2,500-a-night Scarface suite and partied hard into the early hours.
Saturday night saw the first of the sell out gigs and first to stage was Usher’s supporting act, UK rapper Tinchy Stryder. Stryder got the crowd hyped up with his hit singles and finished the set with “Number 1”, sung word for word by the crowd. Usher then took to stage and gave fans a blockbuster show, running through some of his best known hits.
The “Confessions” singer was so impressed with The Wright Venue he returned for a second visit after his show on Saturday night, in order to celebrate the birthday of one of his female dancers, and again mixed with fellow club goers in the main club. The R&B star, drinking Dom Perignon champagne alongside his dancers and production team, presented the birthday girl with a large cake supplied by club owner, Michael Wright.
On Sunday afternoon fans of the 32 year old spotted him out and about on our Dublin streets going on a shopping spree before his second sell-out gig in the O2. After his last show in the O2 the singer visited Bruxelles on Harry Street, along with his bodyguard, crew, chauffeur and tour photographer. One of the Barman tells RTE TEN “I asked him what he’d like to drink and he said, ‘Guinness, of course’ so I asked him would he like to pour his own. He jumped at the chance.”
Bruxelles, which boasts an eight-foot tall Bronze statue of Phil Lynott just beside its front entrance, is a famous music landmark in Dublin.
