Lupe Fiasco makes a powerful statement in the video for ‘Words I Never Said’; the second release from LASERS featuring Skylar Grey. In the politically charged track, Lupe tackles controversial issues relating to cover ups, government corruption and censorship.
“I really think the war on terror is a bunch of bullshit/
Just a poor excuse for you to use up all your bullets/
How much money does it take to really make a full clip/
9/11 building 7- did they really pull it?”
In this Sanaa Hamri directed video, Lupe sets out on a quest to rescue a female revolutionary who was forcefully imprisoned and subjected to brainwashing. In tune with Skylar’s haunting chorus -“As I drown in my regrets, I can’t take back the words I never said”- Lupe travels on board a bus full of passengers who are all silenced with gags. Real life footage of the Gaza conflict, war, and 9-11, flash across the screen as Lupe uses the loudspeaker to speak out against the American Government and Media. The Chicago rappper’s freedom of speech is soon cut short by law enforcers who invade the bus and arrest him. However, proving that he will not be silenced without a fight, Lupe manages to escape from his cell and physically defeat several officers before rescuing the captured woman.
In a recent interview with Rap-Up Tv, Lupe explained the concept behind the video: “It was more so me being this liberator, undercover agent who was sneaking into this prison to kinda rescue one of my comrades from the clutches of the evil people”.
