Poor old Kanye West fresh from the controversy surrounding the video for “All of The Lights” (as revealed to you on rapireland) the stars latest offering has again fallen on the wrong side of the censors as “Monster” was today banned from MTV.
Kanye is not having much luck of late, as, although his latest album has gone platinum the videos from the album are causing the powers that be at MTV in particular un-imaginable nightmares. First of all the offering for “All of The Lights” was roundly accused of stealing themes, then it was temporarily taken off the air for apparently causing seizures after it was analysed by a UK based concern group. Now MTV have banned the newest video for his posse cut “Monster.”
Although the video hit the net a couple of months ago it seems it will never make it onto our screens. The net release turned out to be a leak and was an unfinished version of the video which was still being constructed so it was hoped that the finished version would be suitable for screening once officially released. Unfortunately for Mr. West due to the depiction of women in the video, that will now not be happening. A petition to ban the video from Change.org was circulated and eventually signed by MTV.
“The mainstreaming of videos like this increases desensitized and callous attitudes toward violence against women,” said Melinda Tankard Reist, one of the campaign originators. “Young people are seeing images and absorbing harmful messages which glamorise misogyny and brutalise women. Women are reduced to sex-doll like playthings. So great is the level of desensitization that the barbaric treatment of women and girls is seen as normal and to be expected. We decided to run this campaign because we wanted to challenge the status quo.”
Better luck next time Kanye!
They are making such a big deal about this video. I’ve seen worse videos that have been shown in MTV (cough lady gaga cough)
