As is the current trend in the rap world, yet another feud has emerged over the past few weeks between two of hip-hops biggest names. This time the stars who are in the midst of a verbal spar are Jay-Z and Lil Wayne.
The beat-downs began between the pair when Birdman criticized Hov after he topped MTV’s hottest MCs list in 2009. The Young Money mogul proclaimed that his artist and protege was in fact the superior rapper and that he made more dollars than Jigga. Jay retaliated on H.A.M with the line: “I’m like, ‘Really, half-a-billi?’ N—a, really, you got Baby money/ Keep it real with n—as, n—as ain’t got my lady money.”
Weezy then became involved in the war of words when he called Hov out on his Carter IV track It’s Good, a song that featured Drake and Jadakiss. Lil Wayne remarked on the rivalry over riches when he rapped: “Talkin’ bout Baby money? I got your baby money/ Kidnap your bitch, get that how-much-you-love-your-lady money.”
According to MTV’s Rapfix both Jigga and Weezy are at ease over the exchanges that have taken place. Wayne revealed to Vibe magazine that he did not expect to receive any verbal or physical beat-down from Hov over the beef: “Every man should know the repercussions and consequences behind whatever they do before they do it. And of course, I know there won’t be any repercussions behind what I did.”
Jay told MTV News that the verbal skirmish between the pair was nothing to be too concerned about, Hov stated:”That’s sport, that’s rap music,” Taking into consideration the fact that Jigga addressed the issue at a fundraiser for his Shawn Carter Foundation maybe he was in a charitable mood. Only time will tell if the war of words will transform into the standout war of the rap world.
