As new artists go, this fella may be one to watch. Phaze One has been gathering momentum on the UK Hip Hop scene for a while and Rap Ireland has been given access to some of his latest material.
Hailing from Sudbury in good old London Town, Phaze One is trying hard to gain recognition in the game and with hard edged lyrics and filthy filthy beats, reminiscent of the old school of Hip Hop, but with a very modern lyricist on the mic, it is hard to see him being out of the Hip Hop spotlight for long .
Spouting a huge range of influences which include Biggie Smalls, J Dilla, Madlib, Redman, Busta Rhymes, Eminem and old school artists such as Slick Rick, Common, Pete Rock and all of the early Death Row West-coast stuff, it is not hard to see, after listening to a few of his tunes, that this guy has taken all of that and added his own individuality and creativity to create big, gritty, diverse tunes which appeal to old and new Hip Hop fans alike.
With a drive and hunger that has been widely commended since the early days of his career, the question now is when the young rapper will be tested with the success that will surely come his way in 2011 and beyond. Remember where you heard it first!
