Yes, it finally happened. Ice Cube got his name on the Goodyear Blimp!Today was a good day!
January 20, 1992 was alledgedly the day that inspired Ice Cube’s “It Was a Good Day” classic. ” It was the only day that simultaneously Yo MTV Raps was on the air, it was clear and smogless and the Lakers beat the SuperSonics, etc etc. The only piece of the puzzle missing was the Goodyear blimp flying over L.A. announcing that Ice Cube’s a pimp.
Fast forward 22 years and it’s time to put that right. In a drive to raise money for charity, three “hip-hop loving friends” calling themselves “Team Good Day Blimp” vowed to raise $25,000 for a local L.A charity if Goodyear would get its blimp involved. Ice Cube was down. Goodyear was down. It happened.
So today, January 20th 2014, Goodyear flew its blimp over South Central L.A. It’s official; Ice Cube’s a pimp!
