Back in November, Young Money rapper Nicki Minaj was dubbed “The Queen of Hip-Hop” by Rolling Stone. The Queens emcee was recently interviewed by Funkmaster Flex for MTV2’s “Funk Flex Full Throttle” show, were Minaj talked about being given the title by the magazine. Nicki said that she was extremely excited to have been awarded such a major title by Rolling Stone and added that she won’t let the title go to her head, that she’s just honoured to see that people respect all her hard work over the past year.
“It was very, very amazing to me,” said Nicki who was busy promoting the now platinum album ‘Pink Friday’, when the magazine crowned her. “I was so excited ’cause they’re really respected, and then when I went on all the TV shows, they kept on saying, ‘She’s been dubbed the New Queen of Hip-Hop by Rolling Stone magazine,’ so I was like, that happened at the perfect time.”
The Harajuku Barbie has gone from strength to strength since bursting onto the scene last year and while flattered by the honor, she doesn’t feel entitled to crown as of yet. “I’m honored because I obviously have been working hard to get to this place,” she added “Whether or not I’m the queen of anything, everybody’s gonna have their own opinion and I don’t do this thinking I’m the queen of this, I’m the queen of that. I just feel like I’m working hard and I just want people to recognize that”
